Zaphir Blue Moon Winter is coming

Blue is the color of winter nights, of frost-covered landscapes and the infinite stillness of the sky above. It carries a quiet depth, an invitation to slow down, turn inward and find peace in the darkness before the light returns.

The winter solstice lies ahead. Nature is entering its sleep, animals and plants have begun their hibernation and the days are at their shortest. We experience the longest night of the year, and you can see the most stars as they shine brightest at this time. Crystal nights, frost, cold air and snow enchant much of the globe while people gather to celebrate the holidays.

Plants and trees are preparing for the next season. Now it is time to relax and replenish.

The Nights of Yule and the Twelve Holy Nights

The Nights of Yule, also known as the Rauhnächte or Twelve Holy Nights, mark the time between 25 December and 6 January. These twelve nights have been observed across Germanic and Celtic traditions for centuries as a threshold time, a period when the year turns and the boundaries between the old and the new feel permeable. Historically they were used for reflection, releasing what no longer serves and consciously setting intentions for the year ahead.

Each of the twelve nights is said to symbolize one month of the coming year, offering a natural structure for self-reflection, looking back at the past twelve months and aligning with what you want to invite in. This connection between the twelve nights and the twelve months makes this period one of the most powerful times of the year for inner work and conscious renewal.

Rituals and Practices for the Nights of Yule

Meditation and Inner Stillness
The Nights of Yule are an ideal time to deepen your meditation practice. The long, dark nights invite a natural slowing down and a turning inward. Whether you sit in silence, use breathwork or allow the tones of a wind chime to guide you, meditation during this period supports clarity, peace and a conscious transition into the new year.

Dream Journaling
Dreams during the Rauhnächte are traditionally regarded as meaningful, offering hints about inner themes or the year ahead. Keeping a dream journal or reflection journal during this time supports self-awareness and helps you identify personal goals and recurring patterns worth addressing.

Setting Intentions
One of the most widely practiced modern rituals of the Nights of Yule is the thirteen wishes ritual. Write down thirteen wishes or intentions, reflect on them and release them one by one until a single central intention remains. This practice encourages mindfulness, repeated reflection and conscious goal setting as the year turns.

Sound and Chime Meditation
Wind chimes are a beautiful companion for the stillness of the Nights of Yule. The resonant tones create a harmonious atmosphere for meditation, ritual and inner reflection, filling your space with gentle sound that supports both relaxation and focused intention.

The Zaphir Blue Moon could not be more fitting for this season with its soothing, deeply resonant sounds. It comes in the tuning D, F, A, B, C, E, A# and C and has the deepest tuning of all the Zaphir chimes. It is the ideal choice for deep relaxation, meditation and grounding during the longest nights of the year.

Chakra

The deep, still tones of the Zaphir Blue Moon have a natural affinity with the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) and the Third Eye Chakra (Ajna). The Throat Chakra governs how we express ourselves and communicate our truth, while the Third Eye connects us to intuition, inner vision and deeper perception. The color blue supports both of these centres, bringing calm, clarity and an expanded sense of awareness. If you feel blocked in your ability to express yourself or are looking to deepen your intuitive practice, the Blue Moon is a powerful companion. Feng Shui

In Feng Shui, the Blue Moon belongs to the Water element, one of the five elements that govern the flow of energy in a space. Water is associated with depth, wisdom and the flow of life itself. Place your Blue Moon in the Career area (area 1) of your home or workspace to invite clarity, forward movement and professional growth. The long, resonant tones of this chime carry the slow, deep energy of water perfectly, making it one of the most naturally grounding chimes in the Zaphir collection.

Native American Zodiac

The Blue Moon is the chime of the North Wind and the deep winter. In Native American astrology, the North Wind brings introspection, endurance and wisdom. The three signs it governs are Goose (Capricorn, 22 December – 19 January), known for determination and focus, Otter (Aquarius, 20 January – 19 February), known for originality and independence, and Wolf (Pisces, 20 February – 20 March), known for deep empathy and intuition. If one of these is your sign, the Blue Moon may feel like a particularly personal and resonant companion.
